Overview: Up for sale is this very beautiful woodblock print, "Nijo Castle," by a rarely-seen woodblock artist, Kenji Kawai (1908-1995). Kawai did not produce a lot of woodblock prints, and the ones he did produce were fairly limited in their run, so he remains a coveted and difficult-to-find print artist. This piece depicts Nijo Castle on a fine day after a snowfall in winter. It was published by Unsodo in 1947. It is matted and framed (the matting is great) in a simple wood frame. A very rare and beautiful print.

Condition: The print is in very good condition. It has a few minor instances of foxing and a slight wrinkle on the left. Minor staining on upper left portion of matting. The frame is in good shape, with some of the paper facade rubbing off.

Measurements: Visible area of the print measures approximately 13.5 inches high by 8.5 inches wide (though the print likely measures approximately15.825 x 10.5 under the matting. Frame measures approximately 19.25 inches high x 14.5 inches wide.
