These were used as power storage devices (batteries) before rural electrification in the 1930's. Not sure the age but probably at least 90 years old.
Antique glass battery boxes, often called "battery jars" from the late 19th/early 20th century, were used to house wet cell batteries for early telephone switches, train signals, and rural lighting.
