Samsung gear vr oculus
The Samsung Gear VR (Powered by Oculus) is a mobile virtual reality headset developed by Samsung in collaboration with Oculus (now Meta). It launched in 2015 as a consumer-friendly VR experience, using compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones as the display and processor.
While it was highly regarded as a high-quality mobile VR solution, it has since been discontinued, with official support ending around 2020–2021.
Key Features and Specifications
Powered by Oculus: The software and app store (Oculus Home) are managed by Oculus, providing a similar experience to the Oculus Go.
Controller: Later models (such as the SM-R325) included a hand-held Bluetooth controller with a trigger, touchpad, and navigation buttons for interactive gaming and app navigation.
Optics: Features a 101-degree field of view (on later models) and a focus adjustment wheel.
Controls: The headset itself has a touchpad, back button, and volume rocker on the right side.
Connectivity: Models are equipped with USB Type-C or Micro USB connectors to plug directly into the phone.
Compatible Devices
The Gear VR is only compatible with specific Samsung smartphones. Later models supported a wider range of phones:
Galaxy S Series: S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8+, S9, S9+.
Galaxy Note Series: Note 5, Note FE, Note 8, Note 9 (requires an additional adapter).
Other: Galaxy A8/A8+ (2018).
